McMurray Hangs on for Talladega Victory

For the second straight week, a non-Chaser emerges victorious. It was restrictor-plate master, Jamie McMurray, grabbing the Talladega victory on Sunday. McMurray brought his car to the front in the late going and hung on for his first victory since 2010.

Championship contenders, Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson, paced the field in the beginning of the afternoon. They faded as the laps went on, but both managed to survive the biggest obstacle in the Chase.

Surprisingly, only four cars found wrecks throughout the afternoon. The first occurred on lap 72 when Marcos Ambrose got loose in the tri-oval and spun down the track right into Juan Pablo Montoya. Continue reading →

Dramatic closing laps left Johnny Sauter in victory lane after a chaotic day at Talladega. Sauter had help from teammate Matt Crafton for most of the race. It was Crafton pushing Sauter on the last restart and that propelled Sauter to his third win of the season.

The destiny of the championship battle took a wild turn at Talladega. Throughout the afternoon, many different scenarios arose that could have put a drastic spin to the title hunt. James Buescher led early and was one of the early favorites which would have dramatically helped his championship case. Kyle Busch Wins Nationwide Dollar General 300 from the Pole

Kyle Busch won from the Coors Light pole—as he almost always does—and the race for the NASCAR Nationwide Series championship remains excruciating tight.

Busch held off charging series leader Austin Dillon in Friday night’s Dollar General 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Earlier in the day, Busch won his ninth NNS pole of the season, and for the eighth time in nine tries this year, Busch won from the top starting spot.

The victory is the series-best 11th of the season for Busch, who won for the eighth time in the series at Charlotte and for the 62nd time in his career, extending his own series record. In Victory Lane, Busch announced that he and wife Samantha are donating all the race winnings to the Pretty in Pink Foundation to combat breast cancer. Continue reading →

Harvick Perseveres through Onslaught of Cautions for a Kansas Win

On paper the race may seem a clean-cut day for Kevin Harvick on Sunday at Kansas Speedway, but in reality, the paper is a bit deceiving.

Harvick started the race out front and finished there too, but he was challenged to remain on his game throughout the many restarts which could have meant trouble for the No.29 team. Harvick may have earned the win, but the biggest story of the day was a shift in Sprint Cup challengers at the top. Kansas was filled with chaos and to top all of that off, one of the top championship contenders, Kyle Busch, was caught up in a wreck that may have wiped his shot at the title away. Continue reading →
