MWR Announces Burton to #66 for 2014 Sprint Cup Season
Michael Waltrip Racing announced today it has contracted Jeff Burton to test and drive in a select number of races during the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup season in the No. 66 Toyota Camry.
Burton, a 21-time winner in the Sprint Cup Series begins testing for MWR Dec. 9 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The first scheduled NASCAR Sprint Cup race for Burton will be the March 9 race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
In the upcoming weeks, MWR will announce any other events added to Burton’s schedule. Continue reading
Elliott Sadler to Drive No. 55 for MWR in Final 2013 Races
Michael Waltrip Racing announced today that Elliott Sadler will drive the No. 55 Aaron’s Dream Machine in the 2013 season’s final four Sprint Cup races.
Sadler replaces Brian Vickers, who is unavailable for the rest of the season due to anti-coagulation medications he is taking to treat a small blood clot in his right leg. Doctors indicate Vickers will be on the medication at least two months.
Sadler drives a Joe Gibbs Racing car full-time in the Nationwide Series and begins racing the No. 55 at Martinsville Speedway on October 27th. He will then finish the season with Scott Miller as his crew chief at Texas, Phoenix and Homestead. Continue reading
Michael Waltrip Racing Reorganizes for 2014 Season
Michael Waltrip Racing announced today their plan for reorganizing for the 2014 Sprint Cup season, featuring two full-time championship contending teams and a third entry running a limited schedules. Their plan also includes a strengthened research and development group.
MWR will continue fielding the No. 55 Aaron’s car and the No. 15 5-hour Energy/Peak car in their pursuit of the 2014 Sprint Cup championship. To support that effort, MWR is bolstering their research and development group and supporting a third car on partial schedule, including Michael Waltrip in the 2014 Daytona 500.
Martin Truex Jr, driver of the No. 56 and his crew chief, Chad Johnston, were given notice, they are free to negotiate with other teams. Scott Miller, the team’s executive vice president of competition, will continue his role as crew chief of the No. 55 team into the 2014 season. Continue reading

Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne and Clint Bowyer, along with team owners Rick Hendrick, Michael Waltrip and Rob Kauffman, were honored Wednesday, May 22, at the 33rd annual Speedway Children’s Charities Gala presented by Sonic Automotive.
The event, located at the Ritz Carlton in uptown Charlotte, was aptly themed a “Night of Champions” as Johnson, Kahne and Bowyer each won a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway last year. Continue reading
