Nationwide Series Dollar General 300 Powered by Coca-Cola Preview

DollarGeneral300Chicagoland Speedway is host to the Nationwide Series drivers and their Dollar General 300 Powered by Coca-Cola race on Saturday, September 14th. Television coverage begins at 3:30 pm ET on ESPN2 with radio coverage on MRN, Sirius XM radio, channel 90 for all 300 miles and a total of 200 laps.

The last visit by the Nationwide Series to Chicagoland Speedway in July, Sam Hornish Jr finished runner-up to Sprint Cup regular Joey Logano and it was Austin Dillon crossing the finish line third. Continue reading

More than 21 years ago NASCAR consolidated their Late Model Sportsman Division into a national touring series, now known as the Nationwide Series. NASCAR’s Nationwide Series teams head to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Great Clips/Grit Chips 300 race on Saturday, August 31st. Television coverage begins at 7 pm ET on ESPN2 with radio coverage on PRN, Sirius XM channel 90.

In a points battle too close to call, Nationwide Series contenders are swapping the points lead, among the drivers near the top of the standings. Sam Hornish Jr is watching his narrow advantage over the rest of the field shrink further after Friday’s Bristol race.

Finishing third at Bristol, Austin Dillon followed Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski to jump from fourth to second in the point standings. Hornish’s 13-point advantage over Elliott Sadler is now at six points over Dillon with only ten races left in the season. Sadler who now sits 11 markers behind Hornish, dropped to third.

The Food City 250 on Friday night wasn’t exactly a battle to the finish – it was total domination.

Competitors know that when Kyle Busch wins the Coors Light Pole for a Nationwide Series race – as he did Friday afternoon at Bristol Motor Speedway – they may as well concede their chances to win.

In the last 72 laps of green-flag racing, it was indeed, Busch pulling away from second-place, Brad Keselowski to win his sixth Nationwide Series event at the .533-mile short track. It was Busch’s ninth win of the season and 60th of his career, representing a series-record high.   Continue reading
