Gibbs has a Good One in Erik Jones
Joe Gibbs Racing continues to shell out talent in NASCAR and its latest prodigy, Erik Jones, has broken the mold.
In ten starts this season, Jones has two victories at Bristol and Dover, two Dash 4 Cash wins totaling $200,000 of bonus money and six top-fives. Put the rumors to rest, 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick isn’t going anywhere.
Despite consistent chatter that Harvick was leaving Stewart-Haas Racing at the end of the 2016 Cup season, the team announced Thursday afternoon a long-term contract extension for Harvick to remain as the driver of the No. 4 car in a new multi-year agreement. The length of the contract was not specified.
The Bakersfield, California native joined SHR after a lengthy stint at Richard Childress Racing in 2014 and his impact with the organization was not influential but immediate. In his first season driving the No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet, Harvick scored eight poles, won five races and led a whopping 2,137 laps en route to his first Sprint Cup championship. Returning to Orange Show Speedway after 38 years, NASCAR K&N Pro Series West drivers will take center stage on Saturday, May 21st as teams take to the track for the first time since September 23, 1978 for the Sunrise Ford 150.
Representing Sunrise Ford Racing this weekend is the latest K&N West winner, Ryan Partridge who won at Tucson Speedway on May 7th and his teammate, Cole Rouse, who is competing for the 2016 Rookie of the Year honors. Partridge is now just four points behind series’ points leader, Todd Gilliland, while Rouse sits fourth in the point standings and six points behind last year’s series’ champion, Chris Eggleston who is third in points.
