Overcoming a pit road speeding penalty, Riley Herbst brought his Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 home with a sixth-place finish in the Iowa 250 presented by Enogen at Iowa Speedway on Sunday evening. With NASCAR Xfinity Series qualifying in the books, the rookie, Austin Cindric in the No. 22 for Team Penske takes the pole position to start the Iowa 250 presented by Enogen on Sunday evening. It is Cindric’s first pole award in the Xfinity Series.
“It’s a big relief for me,” says Cindric. “I’ve been really close so far in the last few weeks and it’s good to get it done. But this is just a fox tick…We’ve got three stages to do it today and with a lot of tire fall off, a lot of lanes to try to figure out how to use, and it should be a fun race.”
Starting alongside Cindric is Daniel Hemric followed by Brandon Jones, Elliott Sadler, and Cole Custer rounding out the top-five starters. Custer won the first two rounds of qualifying.
Ryan Truex, Tyler Reddick, Kaz Grala, Riley Herbst and Michael Annett from Des Moines, IA, is racing at his home track at Iowa, round out the top-ten.
The Iowa 250 starts at 5 pm ET tonight with pre-race coverage on FOX Sports 1, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio starting at 4:30 pm ET.
