Late Race Surge Leads Keselowski to a Charlotte Victory

There is always one race in the Chase when a non-championship contender sneaks up and grabs the victory. Charlotte has become a track where this feat can easily be accomplished. Brad Keselowski was the driver to pull it off this season when he pulled into victory lane Saturday night at Charlotte. It was nowhere near a dominant performance by the defending champion. Harvick Perseveres through Onslaught of Cautions for a Kansas Win

On paper the race may seem a clean-cut day for Kevin Harvick on Sunday at Kansas Speedway, but in reality, the paper is a bit deceiving.

Harvick started the race out front and finished there too, but he was challenged to remain on his game throughout the many restarts which could have meant trouble for the No.29 team. Harvick may have earned the win, but the biggest story of the day was a shift in Sprint Cup challengers at the top. Kansas was filled with chaos and to top all of that off, one of the top championship contenders, Kyle Busch, was caught up in a wreck that may have wiped his shot at the title away. Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Preview

Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas SpeedwayWhen fans think of wild card tracks in the Chase, Talladega and Martinsville come to mind. Over the last year, a new track has proven it belongs on that list and that track is Kansas Speedway. A reconfiguration has turned this once flat track into a high banked thriller. The corners are trickier, the straightaways are faster, and victory is that much harder to do. Kansas has turned itself into one of the most unpredictable races in the Chase. A survival game will be played on Sunday to see who can survive and advance in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Continue reading →

Johnson Dominates Dover

Jimmie Johnson’s quest for a sixth-championship went into full-effect Sunday afternoon at Dover. Johnson paced the field throughout the day to come away with the victory. It was his fifth win of the season, but more importantly his eighth at Dover making him the all-time leader of victories at the Monster Mile. Passing two legends in Bobby Allison and Richard Petty.

The race may not have begun well for Johnson, but he worked his Dover magic to make the outcome a favorable one for the No.48 team. His teammate, Dale Earnhardt Jr., began the day on the pole and led many laps in the early going. This race looked very promising for an Earnhardt Jr. victory, but the move that likely cost him the victory occurred under the first round of green-flag pit stops when he missed pit road. By carrying too much speed on his approach to the pits, he missed the entrance costing him valuable time. That misfortune was beneficial for Johnson who assumed the lead after the round of stops. Logano Goes Four Straight Nationwide Series Races at Dover

A monster of a performance left Joey Logano in victory lane Saturday afternoon at Dover. Pit strategy filled the air throughout the day and Logano’s turned out to be the winning one. It was another battle of the No.22 car and No.54 car as many Nationwide Series races have been this season and for the second straight week, it was the No.22 car winning the fight.

Logano started on the pole and led until Kyle Busch took over the top spot on lap 19. A Brian Scott spin on lap 26 started the strategy frenzy. Most cars stayed out while some pitted under the yellow, but another caution less than ten laps later brought in most of the cars. Logano pitted under the second caution while Kyle Busch stayed out and remained the leader. Continue reading →
