AJ Allmendinger has had his ups and downs this season, from suspension to making a comeback. So where will Allmendinger be in 2013?

AJ Allmendinger started the 2012 Sprint Cup season driving for a top owner in Roger Penske and that all changed when he got suspended by NASCAR for failing a random drug test in July. Allmendinger’s suspension ultimately led him to be let go by Penske Racing and starting NASCAR’s substance abuse rehab “Road to Recovery” program. In the process, Allmendinger has been on the path of reclaiming his passion and drive to be part of a Sprint Cup team again. Continue reading

My NASCAR Tweetup Experience

I had the chance to take part in my first NASCAR tweetup hosted by Jeff Gluck, from SB Nation, on Saturday at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Out From Concussion

After the massive “Big One” at Talladega last week, Hendrick Motorsports and Dale Earnhardt Jr. announced today that Earnhardt got a concussion from the incident and will not race at Charlotte on 10/13 or Kansas on 10/21. This will be Earnhardt’s second concussion in two months. Jenna Fryer, of the AP, reported that Dale Earnhardt Jr. also suffered a concussion during a hard crash while testing at Kansas Speedway just a few weeks ago in August. Continue reading

Chase Tracker – The Contenders after Talladega

This week’s Chase Tracker after Talladega gave drivers a bit of a shakeup with the last lap wreck involving 25 drivers, including 8 Chase contenders, but left the top-three Chase contenders the same. Keselowski came in the points leader and left as the points leader, with Jimmie Johnson remaining in second place and Denny Hamlin, third in the point standings.

Also, Kyle Busch remains the Best of the Rest non-Chase contenders, after race four of the 2012 Chase season.

NASCAR’s Top 35 Rule is No More

Saturday NASCAR told drivers and crews that the top 35 rule would not be in effect come 2013.

Jeff Gordon, driver of the No. 24 “Drive To End Hunger” Chevrolet, also tweeted Saturday that the top 35 rule will not be part of the 2013 season.

The top 35 rule came into effect in 2005 and the rule automatically locks those top 35 in points in the weekend’s race no matter where they qualify. The rule also locks the top 35 in points from the previous year into the first five races of the season starting at the Daytona 500. Continue reading
