Harvick wins ninth race of the season in the NASCAR Cup Series Bass Pro Shops Night Race on Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Bristol Motor Speedway played host for the final race in the first round of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs. The fight for the Round of 12 final spots are tight through the first two races, and those looking to advance had one last chance. That opportunity is in a 500-lap run on the bull ring of Bristol Motor Speedway, and the event surely lives up to the drama unfolding in the last few weeks.

William Byron Needs One More Clutch Moment

Byron is in need of another clutch moment after mediocre results in two of three NASCAR Cup Series playoff races in the Round of 16.

William Byron needs one more clutch moment after mediocre results in two of three NASCAR Cup Series playoff races in the Round of 16.

The buzzer-beater basket; The go-ahead field goal as time expires; the walk-off home run; These are the clutch moments in sports that are the reason people watch and look forward to seeing. 

In the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway, 22-year-old William Byron pulled off NASCAR’s version of that moment.  Byron entered the race in a tight battle with Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson and Wood Brothers Racing’s Matt DiBenedetto for the final two playoff spots. In Byron’s Daytona clutch moment, he not only advances to the playoffs but he scores his first career NASCAR Cup Series victory.

The NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs continued this past Saturday at Richmond Raceway. There was quite a bit of action in last week’s race at Darlington, and it only increases as this first round comes to a close. Two short tracks at Richmond and Bristol will determine the 12 drivers to advance in the playoffs.

Cash or Pass at Richmond Raceway is for the best and worst picks for the NASCAR Cup Series Federated Auto Parts 400 on Saturday night, September 12th.

Just one race into the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, and one Cash or Pass’ ‘Cash In’ driver is already correct, with Kevin Harvick taking the win at Darlington after a selection as a ‘good bet’ last wee. Now, the Cup Series heads from the banked oval of South Carolina to the 0.75-mile short track outside of Richmond, Virginia.
