Kobalt 400 at Las Vegas Preview & Fantasy Picks

Zachs-SCS-Preview-Fantasy-Picks

Here are my Preview and Fantasy Picks for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Kobalt 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 8, 2015. Watch the action at 3:30 pm ET on FOX.

Favorites

  1. Jimmie Johnson – Fastest in the last two practices, and coming off a win last week. Chad Knaus also seems to have this aero package nailed down. All I have to say is watch out…
  2. Kevin Harvick  – Hard to count him out anywhere with how dominant he was last year. He was a bad restart away from giving Johnson a race for the end last week. He has also been fast all weekend.
  3. Joey Logano –  Joey will be very fast and will lead the first chunk of the race as he seems to do from week to week. Reason he is not higher is because Todd Gordon was out done last weekend and failed to respond to track conditions like the Nos. 48, 4 and even the No. 2 did.
  4. Dale Earnhardt Jr – Had a very fast car here last year and has said throughout the weekend that he has liked the car. Whenever he has a car he is comfortable with, it is very common to see him out front. Expect another top-five this weekend.

2-For-2: Penske Proves It’s Contender Round Material

How quickly the tide can turn.

All summer it looked like a Hendrick Motorsports driver would take the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, but now a new team has seized the title of favorite.

With victories in four of the past five races, including the last three in a row, Team Penske drivers Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano have asserted the racing outfit as the organization to beat moving forward in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Keselowski (5) and Logano (4) lead the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in wins and have each locked themselves into the Contender Round with victories in the first two Chase races. On top of their hefty win totals, the duo also tops the series with 12 top-five finishes apiece. Continue reading

Logano Wins at New Hampshire as Chaotic Race Scrambles Chase Standings

Out of the maelström that was New Hampshire Motor Speedway sped Joey Logano, who took control of Sunday’s Sylvania 300 on a restart with 27 laps left and held on to win the second race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

But the crux of Sunday’s race wasn’t about Logano’s fourth victory of the season and the second straight for Team Penske in the Chase. It wasn’t about Logano winning for the seventh time in his career and punching his ticket into the second elimination round under NASCAR’s new playoff format. Continue reading

Kasey Kahne races his way to his first victory of the season and secures his place in the 2014 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

With his Chase hopes hanging on a win, Sprint Cup Series driver Kasey Kahne rang the bell for Hendrick Motorsports and his No. 5 team with a victory in the Oral-B USA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday night.

After losing ground on a late caution that set up two green-white-checkered finishes, Kahne threaded the needle between the leader, Matt Kenseth and a hard-charging Denny Hamlin to take a thrilling win. Continue reading
