Only two weeks into the 2018 season and veteran Elliott Sadler is back where he feels most comfortable – leading the Xfinity Series championship standings. The four-time championship runner-up has not won a race at this week’s venue, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but he has back-to-back eighth-place finishes in his last two races here. He finished fifth in 2013 and his top showing was a third-place after qualifying on the pole in 2012. Continue reading

Ryan Reed has been the surprise of the NASCAR XFINITY Series season so far.

The 23-year-old Roush Fenway Racing driver won the season-opener at Daytona and sits second in the points standings – four points behind Elliott Sadler – following his ninth-place finish at Las Vegas.

Reed will continue his run at the top spot in Saturday’s DC Solar 200 at Phoenix Raceway at 4 pm ET on FOX. He finished sixth in the fall race there last year.

“Phoenix is obviously a really cool race track and I think a lot of drivers like it, being one of the few short tracks,” Reed said. “For me, being on the west coast is that much more special. I have a ton of family every time I go out there. I watched my Dad race there growing up and last year at the second Phoenix race we had one of our best races of the year, qualifying third and finishing sixth. I have a lot of confidence going to Phoenix and I’m looking for another good run.”

Saturday’s Boyd Gaming 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway wasn’t a drag race, but lane choice proved critical to Joey Logano’s 28th NASCAR XFINITY Series victory in the No. 12 Team Penske Ford.

Choosing the top side for a restart on lap 196 of 200, after Ty Dillon’s spin on lap 192 necessitated the ninth and final caution of the afternoon, Logano cleared Kyle Larson off turn four after an intense side-by-side battle and pulled away to win by 0.602 seconds. Continue reading

Over the last several years, there’s one rally cry from some fans that has come clearly into focus. They don’t enjoy watching NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers winning XFINITY Series races. They especially don’t enjoy watching one Sprint Cup Series driver dominating the mid tier series races – that driver is Kyle Busch.

At Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon, Busch led all but one lap of the Boyd Gaming 300 on his way to victory, finally fulfilling his dream of winning at his home track in front of his family and friends. For them, Kyle Busch is the reason they came to the track to watch the XFINITY Series race – to see the driver they’ve watch grow from a brash youngster to a seasoned Sprint Cup Series champion.  Continue reading
