Trent Cherry, Penske Pit Crew Coach is ‘One of a Kind’

TrentCherry22Trent Cherry, also known as ‘Twitch’ around the garage, is a proven leader as Pit Crew Coach and with 15-years under his belt at Penske Racing. He knows what it takes as a member of a successful team because he’s also the rear-tire carrier for the #22-Joey Logano team. Although Trent is now on the #22 crew, he’s also been part of the #2 team for most of his career.

Hailing from Charlotte, NC, Trent Cherry began his working experience packaging t-shirts for his dad’s company. So, he’s certainly at home in NASCAR’s racing hub.

When he’s not performing his duties within the Penske organization, Trent is also working behind the scenes representing all NASCAR Sprint Cup crews via pittalks.com, helping to keep the site updated and featuring various Pit Crew members every week.

As for his favorite racing memory, Trent recalls winning the 2002 All-Star race with Ryan Newman. They raced their way into the event and despite starting in last place, the team worked hard and won the All-Star race!

In his spare time, Trent enjoys playing poker and says that Las Vegas is his favorite track. Of course, that’s not because of the on-track racing; instead its his pursuit of a Royal Flush off the track.

Another Track, Same Story: Busch Grabs Darlington Victory in Nationwide Series

Another outstanding and dominant performance by Kyle Busch led him to victory lane Friday night at Darlington. He remained up front in the VFW Sport Clips Help A Hero 200 for most of the night and by the time the checkered flag fell, he was the leader.

This is Busch’s fifth Nationwide Series victory of the season and his seventh NASCAR win so far in 2013. Busch proved how dominant he is in this race and may only be a warm-up for what will come in tomorrow’s Cup race.

Other than a few cautions, this race went by fairly quickly. Busch led for about the first 50 laps before his teammate, Matt Kenseth, beat him off of pit-road to snag the lead. The caution that set up the lead change, featured another of Busch’s teammates, Elliot Sadler. Sadler spun between turns one and two, but that didn’t slow him down as he ended the night finishing second. Continue reading →

National Stock Car Racing Appeals Panel Statement

On May 1, 2013, the National Stock Car Racing Appeals Panel heard and considered the appeal of the No. 2 and No. 22 Penske Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams.

The penalties concern Sections 12-1: Actions detrimental to stock car racing; 12-4J: Any determination by NASCAR Officials that race equipment used in the event does not conform to the NASCAR rules detailed in Section 20 of the NASCAR rule book, or has not been approved by NASCAR prior to the event; and 20-12: All suspension systems and components must be approved by NASCAR. Prior to being used in competition, all suspension systems and components must be submitted in a completed form/assembly to the office of the NASCAR competition administrator for consideration of approval and approved by NASCAR. Each such part may thereafter be used until NASCAR determines that such part is no longer eligible. All suspension fasteners and mounting hardware must be made of solid magnetic steel. All front end and rear end suspension mounts with mounting hardware assembled must have single round mounting holes that are the correct size for the fastener being used. All front end and rear end suspension mounts and mounting hardware must not allow movement or realignment of any suspension component beyond component normal rotation or suspension travel. Over the past weekend, several drivers faced the potential of penalties from NASCAR for rule violations. Besides the penalties, fines and suspensions for Sprint Cup Series drivers Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano and their teams, NASCAR also issued penalties and fines to fellow Sprint Cup driver Martin Truex Jr and Camping World Truck Series driver, Ron Hornaday Jr.

Ron Hornaday Jr.was penalized by NASCAR following his involvement in an on-track incident with Darrell Wallace Jr, last Sunday at Rockingham Speedway. Continue reading →
