Here are my Preview and Fantasy Picks for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series CampingWorld.com 500 at Phoenix International Raceway on March 15, 2015. Watch the action at 3:30 pm ET on FOX.

Contenders

Dale Earnhardt Jr – This team has looked great so far in 2015 and I don’t think that goes away at Phoenix. Jr has shown consistent speed and I feel he will be a big player Sunday.

Carl Edwards – The last man to beat Kevin Harvick at Phoenix? This guy. He hasn’t shown great speed so far in 2015 but he has run well here and can get the job done.

Brad Keselowski –  Has not shown speed similar to Logano, but I like how Paul Wolfe has adjusted to the track throughout the race. I see this team getting better and better every week.  Continue reading

Favorites

  1. Jimmie Johnson – Fastest in the last two practices, and coming off a win last week. Chad Knaus also seems to have this aero package nailed down. All I have to say is watch out…
  2. Kevin Harvick  – Hard to count him out anywhere with how dominant he was last year. He was a bad restart away from giving Johnson a race for the end last week. He has also been fast all weekend.
  3. Joey Logano –  Joey will be very fast and will lead the first chunk of the race as he seems to do from week to week. Reason he is not higher is because Todd Gordon was out done last weekend and failed to respond to track conditions like the Nos. 48, 4 and even the No. 2 did.
  4. Dale Earnhardt Jr – Had a very fast car here last year and has said throughout the weekend that he has liked the car. Whenever he has a car he is comfortable with, it is very common to see him out front. Expect another top-five this weekend.

Logano Aims For Rare 2-fer

Joey Logano followed up his career-year of 2014 with a stirring win in the Daytona 500, becoming the second youngest driver to win the Great American Race at 24 years old.

Now he looks to accomplish another rare feat: Back-to-back wins in the season’s first two races. It’s only happened five times since the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ inception in 1949, the last by Matt Kenseth in 2009. The five drivers to do it: Marvin Panch (1957), Bob Welborn (1959), David Pearson (1976), Jeff Gordon (1997) and Kenseth.  Continue reading

Kevin Harvick – He looked great through practice and qualifying until the engine failure. Although he will start in the back he will find guys like Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, and Matt Kenseth back there with him. I think he has the car in terms of race trim but what will the engine failure cost him anything? Should be Interesting.  Continue reading

Logano Advances with Kansas Win, as Several Chase Favorites Falter

In a race that saw Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup favorites Jimmie Johnson, Brad Keselowski and Dale Earnhardt Jr. fall by the wayside, Joey Logano earned a ticket to the Eliminator Round of the Chase with a hard-fought victory in Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway.

Logano beat rookie Kyle Larson to the finish line by .480 seconds to notch his fifth victory of the season, tied with Team Penske teammate Brad Keselowski for most in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series this year. The win was Logano’s first at Kansas and the eighth of his career. Continue reading
