15th Year as “Official News Site of Snowball Derby” for Speed51.com

The Snowball Derby is the pinnacle of pavement short track racing in America.  The crown jewel event attracts hundreds of race cars, thousands of attendees and even more fans following along through Speed51.com.  Five Flags Speedway announced Tuesday that Speed51.com powered by JEGS will be the “Official News Site of the Snowball Derby” for a 15th consecutive year.

While no amount of coverage will ever substitute for actually being a part of the Snowball Derby experience, 51 will bring fans closer to the action than ever before with several new interactive features, as well as Trackside Now coverage.

Seventeen year-old Zane Smith will move up his earlier reported ARCA Racing Series debut and drive for Venturini Motorsports (VMS) in next week’s highly anticipated Fall Classic at Salem Speedway on Saturday, September 10.

Smith, already scheduled to make his Kentucky Speedway debut later this month, will drive VMS’ No.66 Icon Vehicle Dynamics Toyota at the famed Indiana half-mile short track. Continue reading

The 2016 season is still shaping up for John Hunter Nemechek, with NEMCO Motorsports for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, but he’s clear on his expectations and goals for the year – to win races and the championship title.

After two successful part-time campaigns the last two seasons  – ten races in 2014 and 18 races in 2015 – Nemechek is looking to race the full season this year. Continue reading

In four of the last ten Snowball Derby events at Five Flags Speedway, the first car to the checkered flag was found with post-race inspection violations. For some fans and drivers a 40 percent rate is alarming and cause for concern.  But for others the focus is on appreciating the consistency and fairness of the inspection process that rewards those towing the line within the rules as outlined for all drivers entering the event.

The Chief Inspector and Technical Director, Ricky Brooks has developed his reputation as a tough but fair to all official at Five Flags Speedway for the annual Snowball Derby event. His inspection area has become affectionately known as the ‘Room of Doom.’ Drivers say racing the Snowball Derby at the track in Pensacola, Florida is one of the most stressful experiences they face all season. But at the same time, they come from all parts of the country and beyond for the chance to compete against the best of the best in this prestigious race.  Continue reading
