Sport’s Young Rising Stars Spotlighted
Filled with prospects coming from Nevada to Georgia, from Canada to Mexico, and a number of hometowns in between, NASCAR unveiled today the 2013 driver roster for the NASCAR Next program at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa.
NASCAR Next, an evolution of the Next9 initiative that began in 2011, is an overarching industry initiative to help spotlight NASCAR’s rising stars – and bolster fan recognition around talent that will grow into NASCAR Sprint Cup Series mainstays. In addition to competing on various NASCAR series across the country, drivers in the program will participate in several media and promotional activities throughout the next 12 months. Nationwide Series drivers are headed out to Iowa Speedway this weekend, so here are a few fast facts and notes to preview the event.
Axalta Coating Systems, formally Dupont, announced today that the company has extended its sponsorship with Hendrick Motorsports and Jeff Gordon through 2016.
This season has been the first year that the name Dupont has not been seen on Jeff Gordon’s car in the Sprint Cup series. Earlier this year, Dupont came under new ownership and is renamed as Axalta Coating Systems. Jeff Gordon has sponsored paint brands such as Cromax Pro so far this season in place of the Axalta name. This weekend at Pocono Raceway marks the first time Axalta will appear on the car where he will run the “firestorm” scheme. Continue reading
After earning their undergraduate degrees, some aspiring schoolteachers spend several years traveling in Europe, Asia and elsewhere pursuing graduate studies.
Of course, few do so at speeds exceeding 330 miles per hour, which is what sets Brittany Force apart from her peers.
A graduate of Cal State-Fullerton who also studied at New York’s Hunter College, Brittany earned her teaching credentials before deciding to pursue a master’s degree in a less traditional field of endeavor: automotive high performance.
That decision this year has landed the second youngest of John Force’s four daughters in the cockpit of the 8,000 horsepower Castrol EDGE Top Fuel dragster for what promises to be an historic 2013 NHRA Mello Yello drag racing season. Continue reading
