This episode begins with Dustin Long, reporter and broadcaster at Motor Racing Network. A graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington, IN, Long’s career includes contributions at Landmark Communications, Greensboro News and Record, Caroll County Times, Idaho State Journal, Athlon Sports, Sports Illustrated, and USA Today. Long has also served as President at National Motorsports Press Association and has authored a children’s book on the history of the Daytona 500 and another book titled “The Petty Family Album: In Tribute to Adam Petty.”

Next, is Ryan Partridge, Irwindale’s NASCAR Whelen champion.

For NHRA Talk, Erica Enders-Stevens, pro stock driver, joins the conversation.

Ryan Partridge is Irwindale’s Champion

In August, 2013, Ryan Partridge and his No. 48 LoanMart Racing team returned to Irwindale Event Center for a double-header event.

Partridge started his evening in the Progressive Painting Super Truck/PPST and qualified fifth. He then headed to the trophy dash race and won. Starting from the pole position for the feature race Partridge held off his competitors en route to victory lane.  Continue reading

McMurray Hangs on for Talladega Victory

For the second straight week, a non-Chaser emerges victorious. It was restrictor-plate master, Jamie McMurray, grabbing the Talladega victory on Sunday. McMurray brought his car to the front in the late going and hung on for his first victory since 2010.

Championship contenders, Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson, paced the field in the beginning of the afternoon. They faded as the laps went on, but both managed to survive the biggest obstacle in the Chase.

Surprisingly, only four cars found wrecks throughout the afternoon. The first occurred on lap 72 when Marcos Ambrose got loose in the tri-oval and spun down the track right into Juan Pablo Montoya. Continue reading

Sauter Avoids Carnage to Pick Up Plate Track Sweep at Talladega

Dramatic closing laps left Johnny Sauter in victory lane after a chaotic day at Talladega. Sauter had help from teammate Matt Crafton for most of the race. It was Crafton pushing Sauter on the last restart and that propelled Sauter to his third win of the season.

The destiny of the championship battle took a wild turn at Talladega. Throughout the afternoon, many different scenarios arose that could have put a drastic spin to the title hunt. James Buescher led early and was one of the early favorites which would have dramatically helped his championship case. Point’s leader Crafton stayed at the back for a good part of the race, but at the finish, he made a charge toward the front. Continue reading
