Official 2013 Sprint Cup Schedule

The official 2013 Sprint Cup schedule is finally out. You can now book those travel plans for your favorite race. The schedule is practically identical to this past season so no one’s plans will change. Kansas Speedway, October 6, and Talladega Superspeedway, October 20, will swap back their original dates from 2011. The dates were swapped in 2012 due to the repave at Kansas Speedway. We can expect bigger changes in 2014 but here is the official 2013 Sprint Cup schedule. Continue reading

AJ Allmendinger Reinstated by NASCAR

AJ Allmendinger has been reinstated by NASCAR after being indefinitely suspended on July 24.

AJ Allmendinger was suspended for violating NASCAR’s substance abuse policy after failing a random drug test at Kentucky Speedway on July 24th. A few weeks later Allmendinger was fired by Penske Racing. AJ, in a later interview, stated that he failed the random drug test by taking amphetamines. Allmendinger said stress was the biggest factory in taking the drug one time and that stress would be the main emphasis in his “Road to Recovery” program so he could return to NASCAR. Here is a look at the unofficial schedule for the Sprint Cup series in 2013. The majority of dates are are still tentative. Dates in bold are confirmed and include Pocono, Daytona 500, Phoenix, Texas, Dover, Las Vegas, Sprint All-Star race and the Coca-Cola 600. Continue reading

Jeff Gordon takes Second Wild Card; Jimmie Johnson the Favorite

Saturday night started out with a down pour of rain and ended with a down pour of excitement.

As wild card teams went into Richmond International Raceway this week, they all knew their individual scenarios to make the Chase. The #2 wild card drivers were Joey Logano, Marcos Ambrose, Ryan Newman, Paul Menard, Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon. Kasey Kahne already held the first wild card spot because of his two wins during the regular season. The remaining bubble drivers needed a win to get into the Chase, with the exception of Jeff Gordon and Kyle Busch, who were separated by just 12-points.  The stage was set to play out on Saturday night.
