Thrilling Restart gives Brendan Gaughan Nationwide Win at Kentucky

Brendan Gaughan capitalized on the opportunity to use the high line on the last restart of Saturday night’s VisitMyrtleBeach.com 300 at Kentucky Speedway to win his second NASCAR Nationwide Series race of the season.

Gaughan, with a three-wide pass, powered around leaders Chase Elliott and Ty Dillon in the closing laps and cleared his competition in turn one, allowing him to cruise to an eight-tenths of a second lead over Richard Childress Racing teammate Brian Scott. Continue reading

15 Different Winners And Counting; Record Is 18   

The NASCAR Nationwide Series has reached its highest level of competitive balance in more than a decade. Ryan Blaney, 20, became the 15th different series winner this past weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, the most through 23 races since 2001. The overall series record for most different winners in a full season is 18, set in 1988.

This season has ten races remaining on the series schedule and the record of 18 could very well be matched. Already, this season has seen five first-timers  with Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, Brendan Gaughan, Ty Dillon and Chris Buescher. Other than the inaugural Nationwide Series season the record for first-time winners is six.

Marcos Ambrose Dominates for a Victory in the Nationwide Series Zippo 200

Marcos Ambrose was the man to beat during the NASCAR Nationwide Series Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen International and there was no denying his Richard Petty Motorsports No. 09 team a visit to Victory Lane on Saturday afternoon. Ambrose had full control of the lead – 47 of 82 laps – en route to winning his fourth consecutive race at this track. This was Ambrose’s first series win of the 2014 season and his fifth series career victory.

Ambrose is now looking for Dale Jr’s broom – after the No. 88 team swept the races at Pocono last weekend – with an eye toward sweeping this weekend with a Sprint Cup Series win in the Cheez-it 355 on Sunday at 1 pm ET on ESPN.  Continue reading
