Larson Wins Rain-Shortened NASCAR XFINITY Debut Race at Pocono

The maiden voyage of the NASCAR XFINITY Series at Pocono Raceway was shorter than planned, but race winner Kyle Larson wasn’t complaining.

NASCAR awarded the checkered flag in the Pocono Green 250 to Larson when the race was red-flagged after 53 of 100 scheduled laps and then called because of persistent rain.

The victory was Larson’s first of the season and fourth in the series, but it was a source of frustration to runner-up Erik Jones, who arguably had the fastest car and was closing rapidly on Larson when a rain shower blew in from the west and stopped the action. Continue reading →

Fresh Tires Propel Hamlin to NASCAR XFINITY Series Win in Charlotte

In an event that bore notable similarities to the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race a week earlier, Denny Hamlin won Saturday’s Hisense 300 NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway with a pass on the last lap.

Hamlin’s fresh rubber trumped the old tires of Kyle Larson and Joey Logano, who restarted ahead of Hamlin in overtime at the 1.5-mile track.

In fact, Hamlin restarted sixth on lap 205 after coming to pit road for four new tires under the eighth and last caution of the race, brought out when polesitter Erik Jones, Hamlin’s teammate, slammed the outside wall and performed the coup de grâce on his already wounded No. 20 Toyota. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams are preparing for one of their première races of the season, the Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday, May 29th.  One of the most grueling events on the track, drivers will need the stamina to race 600 miles over 400 laps from day into the night on Sunday. Television coverage starts at 5:30 pm ET on FOX with a green flag around 6 pm ET. Radio Coverage is on PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.

Smoke Searches for First Coca-Cola 600 Win in Final Start

Three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart ranks tied for 13th on the all-time victories list, but has never won the Coca-Cola 600.

The member of the Coca-Cola Racing family will attempt to capture his first checkered flag in his last start in NASCAR’s longest race on Sunday.

Stewart’s best finish in the Coca-Cola 600 was a third-place showing in 2001. In 33 starts at Charlotte Motor Speedway (tied with Matt Kenseth for the most among active drivers), Stewart claims one win (fall of 2003), six top-fives, 13 top-tens and an average finish of 14.5. Continue reading →

600 Miles of Remembrance at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Windshield Tribute Part of NASCAR: An American Salute at Coca-Cola 600

Continuing the sport’s long-standing tradition of honoring the United States Armed Forces, all 40 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers will bear the name of a fallen service member on their race car windshields during Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway (6 p.m. ET on FOX, PRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio), NASCAR announced today.

For the second consecutive year, “600 Miles of Remembrance” will pay tribute this Memorial Day Weekend to those who bravely served and died defending our country. Windshield headers normally reserved for drivers’ last names will read “SGT HARVEY,” “LCPL RAMIREZ,” and “SPC BEAUDOIN,” among other names of the fallen.  Continue reading →
