Suarez Dominates at Dover to Advance in XFINITY Chase

With a dominant car that opened leads of more than six seconds after the final restart on lap 152 of 200, Daniel Suárez won Sunday’s rain-delayed Drive Sober 200 at Dover International Speedway and earned a spot in the Round of 8 in the inaugural NASCAR XFINITY Series Chase.

The Mexican-born driver grabbed the top spot from eventual third-place finisher Justin Allgaier on lap 155 and quickly pulled away. Ty Dillon passed Allgaier for the runner-up spot in the closing laps but finished 5.625 seconds behind Suárez, who won for the first time at Dover and the second time this season. Continue reading

XFINITY Race Rainout Means Sunday Doubleheader at Dover

Rain forced postponement of Saturday’s Drive Sober 200 NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Dover International Speedway and put several Chase for the Sprint Cup drivers on the horns of a dilemma.

NASCAR will run a doubleheader on Sunday, with the XFINITY Series event rescheduled for 10 am ET (on CNBC), with the Citizen Soldier 400 Sprint Cup race, scheduled for 2 pm ET (NBCSN), to follow. Elliott Sadler Wins First-Ever NASCAR XFINITY Series Chase Race at Kentucky Speedway

A huge push from Daniel Suárez on a restart with four laps to go in Saturday night’s eventful VisitMyrtleBeach.com 300 sent Elliott Sadler ahead of Ryan Blaney to win the opening race of the NASCAR XFINITY Series Chase at Kentucky Speedway.

Sadler’s third win of the season and 13th of his XFINITY Series career was about more than just stamping his way into Round 2 of the Chase. The Emporia, Virginia, native fought for the win while thinking of his mother, Bell, who was released from the hospital Saturday, after a week of hospitalization and two surgeries. Continue reading

Regular season points leader Elliott Sadler embarks on his quest for his first career NASCAR national series championship. He finished second in the XFINITY Series standings in 2012 and 2013. Pit road penalty thwarts strong run by Jimmie Johnson

Jimmie Johnson had mixed feelings about his 12th-place run in Sunday’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 400 at Chicagoland Speedway.

On the positive side, Johnson’s No. 48 Chevrolet showed excellent speed in the opening race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

The six-time Sprint Cup champion led a race-high 118 laps, but he drew a pit road speeding penalty during a green-flag stop on lap 234 of 270, and that infraction cost Johnson a shot at victory. After serving a pass-through penalty, he fell to 18th in the running order but rallied to finish 12th. Continue reading
