Sunday’s Toyota / Save Mart 350 wasn’t the knock-down, drag-out free-for-all fans have come to expect at Sonoma Raceway in recent years, although it did peg the drama meter with race winner Tony Stewart’s last-lap duel with runner-up Denny Hamlin.

Another Frustrating Day for AJ Allmendinger

The same old song has become painfully familiar to AJ Allmendinger.

In 2014, the driver of the No. 47 JTG / Daugherty Racing Chevrolet started second at Sonoma Raceway, led 35 laps – and finished 37th, two laps down.

Last year, Allmendinger started on the pole and came home 37th again.

Is Tony Stewart having fun yet?

In his last year of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing, Stewart came to Sonoma Racing asserting on Friday he wasn’t having much fun driving a Sprint Cup car.

That all changed in Sunday’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 at the 1.99-mile road course, where Stewart bulldozed Denny Hamlin into the outside wall in Turn 11, executing a dramatic last-lap pass for his first victory since June 2, 2013 at Dover.

In the three years since that victory, a succession of injuries and a personal tragedy have limited the three-time champion’s time in a Sprint Cup car and limited Stewart’s effectiveness when he was behind the wheel of the No. 14 Chevrolet he co-owns with Gene Haas. Continue reading

Longtime NASCAR Broadcaster Eli Gold Resigns From MRN Radio

Longtime NASCAR broadcaster Eli Gold has resigned from the Motor Racing Network, the company’s president David Hyatt confirmed to CATCHFENCE.com

Gold’s nearly 40-year tenure at MRN Radio dated back to the 1976 World 600 at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, where he covered Turns 1 and 2 for the network.

In addition to his duties at MRN, the 62-year-old Gold had been hosting the weekly syndicated show NASCAR Live since 1982. Continue reading
