Jimmie Johnson, welcome to the club.

With his overtime victory in Sunday’s FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks at Dover International Speedway, Johnson became the fifth driver to win ten NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at a single track, joining Richard Petty, David Pearson, Darrell Waltrip and Dale Earnhardt Sr. in sharing that distinction.

Johnson’s triumph was his series-best fourth of the season and the 74th of his career, eighth most all-time and two behind NASCAR Hall of Famer Earnhardt in seventh place. Continue reading

With a deft move with three laps left in Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Denny Hamlin delivered the first victory in the non-points showcase event to Joe Gibbs Racing and to Toyota.

As he drove into turn one to start lap 107, with Kevin Harvick glued to his bumper and ready to make a run at the million-dollar first prize, Hamlin moved up a lane in the corner and took Harvick’s line away, causing Harvick’s No. 4 Chevrolet to lose momentum. Continue reading

Thanks to a brief but wild Kansas spring storm and the long delay it produced, Jimmie Johnson on Sunday became the first NASCAR Sprint Cup driver to win a race on Mother’s Day since 2007.

Johnson, who is pursuing a record-tying seventh Sprint Cup Series championship this season, held off Kevin Harvick over the last six laps to win Sunday morning’s SpongeBob SquarePants 400 at Kansas Speedway.

Johnson’s victory – which was just after midnight local time because of a delay of 2 hours and 16 minutes – was his third of the season and his third at the 1.5-mile Kansas oval.

“It was a long, hard night,” Johnson, who led just ten laps and spun out unassisted early in the race, said in Victory Lane. “Once we got up front, we were able to hang on.”

Reminded about what day it was when he finally took the checkered flag, Johnson said… Continue reading

Zachs-SCS-Preview-Fantasy-Picks

Here is my preview and fantasy picks for the Sprint Cup Series’ SpongeBob SquarePants 400 at Kansas Speedway on Saturday, May 9th.

Contenders

Joey Logano – Very fast race car and is again on the pole, needs to keep his speed and be able to keep up with the track throughout the race though, which has been his achilles heel all season.

Jimmie Johnson – Has been relatively streaky so far this yeas but you really can’t count him out, especially on a mile and half race track. With wins at Atlanta and Texas already I think he will be a serious contender tonight.  Continue reading

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Captures Sixth Career Sprint Cup Victory at Talladega

It’s a toss-up which is greater, Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s passion for Talladega Superspeedway or the Talladega fan base’s passion for Dale Earnhardt Jr.

On a glorious afternoon, Earnhardt offered a one-word order to his team over the radio, a message that could be shared with the thousands of his devotees in the stands: Continue reading
