The 1979 Daytona 500—Donnie Allison’s side of the story

A few days after the 1979 Daytona 500, Donnie Allison’s wife Pat called him to the phone.

“Hello?” Allison said.

He didn’t recognize the voice on the other end of the line, and the caller didn’t identify himself, saying simply, “They have a film that shows the wreck. Make ‘em show it to you.”

“Who is this?” Allison insisted.

“They have a film that shows the wreck,” the voice repeated. “Make ‘em show it to you.”

Two-Time Champion Red Byron Laid the Foundation for Future NASCAR Titlists

Note: This is the first in a five-part series of features detailing the careers of the five inductees for the NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2018. The inductees, who will be officially enshrined on Jan. 19th (8 pm ET on NBCSN, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio), are Red Byron, Ray Evernham, Ron Hornaday Jr., Ken Squier and Robert Yates. 

Robert ‘Red’ Byron was a true NASCAR original – the sport’s first crowned champion (NASCAR Modified Series) and first Strictly Stock Series (the current-day Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series) title winner – and now he will join the NASCAR Hall of Fame, a nod to his historic achievements and the exciting foundation he helped establish for the sport. NASCAR XFINITY Series, Hisense 4K TV 300 at Charlotte Preview

After a few weeks off, the NASCAR XFINITY Series returns to action at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Hisense 4K TV 300 at 1 pm  ET on FOX Sports 1, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio this Saturday, May 27.

Drivers will race 300 miles over 200 laps with Stage 1 ending on lap 45 and Stage 2 on lap 90.  The last Stage will end on lap 200. Continue reading
